Thanks for the pointers and hints!

I got the 802.11 a/b/g card from bill@thinkpads.com for $119 including
shipping. I don't know if there's a b/g card only. My T40 came without a
card, but was upgradable (it has the antenna and indicator light, and the
internal connectors). When I checked upgrading choices from IBM, they had
two 802.11b card only - one from Intel and the other from Cisco:

<http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?lang=en_US&catalogId=-840&langId=-1&prmenbr=1&cntrfnbr=1&partNumber=31P8301&storeId=1&cntry=840>Cisco
Aironet Wireless 802.11b Mini PCI by IBM $109.00

PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter $99.00

So, for a bit more, I went for a/b/g from Bill. So far I'm very pleased
with the performance, although I've only had a chance to try it with
802.11b access points so far.

Cheers,
Andy
