Hiya Ted,
Well the 256mb dimm cost me £15 and the PIII-M 1GHz was £25, not too bad I
personally felt.
Also the matter of the SXGA screen was more of curiosity, to see whether it
was worth it. However the only definite T21 displays I have seen are 300
USD + which I am not in a million years going to spend.
I did look at the A2xp series, but decided I wanted the smaller footprint of
the T2x series thought it was a close run.
Can the A2xp range have its CPU upgraded as with the T2x series?
I like the sound of the 15" 1400x1050 display as the UXGA screen seemed just
a bit too much for the 15" screen, but not exactly a bad thing either.
I have been offered an A21p with UXGA screen for around £300 (from the USA,
so with tax and shipping around £400). I could not afford much more than
the latter as it would mean sale of the T21, which I have become immensely
attached to. The A21p would be good for the 15" screen and SVideo In and
the ATI Rage 128 chipset for games, but I am not really a games player. I'm
sure if I used such a machine I would be less reluctant to budge from my
T21.
If perhaps you can priv. mail me your expected cost of these A20p units,
then I may be interested.
DVDs would be nicer on a bigger screen but I am saving up for a nice
widescreen TV to watch them on (via SVideo out on the T21), and though an
inch more screen estate is a inch more, I doubt my DVDs which are mostly 4:3
resolution will be significantly more pleasurable to watch. I'm not sure if
seeing Steve Coogan (big fan, since he lives in Hove too, not far from me in
Brighton) a good thing either, could be scary stuff :-))
But seriously at the right price, I could be interested.
(Notice I am saving for the TV, because unlike rge Thinkpads which I have
sold one after each other in order to purchase the next, I can't sell my
TP21 for the telly as I would then have no computer at all! hehe. i.e: sale
of T21 would finance purchase of a new thinkpad).
For your own relative sense, I paid £230 for the 800MHz/10GB/128MB (upgraded
to 192MB)/DVD T21 from the US which I felt was a good bargain.
Many thanks and by all means contact me about the A20p's you have.
Vicky
