[Thinkpad] 770X Internal Modem Error

All of a sudden at bootup I am getting the following internal modem error message:
Primary Code: 5[0X0005]
Secondary Code: 4294967191 [Oxffffff97]
File: MWMSPCFC.C
Line: 6111

I have uninstalled the modem and Windows XP reinstalled it but that hasn't helped. Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to resolve this?
