if you need a real serial port, it'll be a problem..
A series is dead.. no longer available.. but among the best of thinkpads..
G series is a real desktop replacement.. big, power hungry.. only saw one,
did not like it..
R series can be ordinary to excellent.. R50p has the best display and is
really a T41p with the A31p display & multiburner..
X series is tiny and wonderful.. maybe X40 will be around by mid summer..
T series is a great thinkpad.. with many versions from economy to super..
my personal choice is T41p or R50p..
thanks for the kind words.. :-)

Subject: [Thinkpad] A? R? X? T? G?
> I will be buying a new ThinkPad sometime this summer. I have a 390X and a
newer HP Pavillion that I hate and plan to replace. I need some help in
deciding which of the series is best for me. I'm a traveling sound
technician using the notebook to measure and tune cpncert PAs and control
various pieces of digital processing. I'm not concerned about weight or
size. I'm more concerned with desktop replacement power, big hard drives,
lots of memory, wireless capability for future applications, big and clear
screens. Plus it has to be durable. My old 390X has survived splendidly and
I still use it for a spare for when, not if, the HP dies on me. So far, I'm
thinking the A series would suit me well. I'll have $2500.00 to spend. Any
thoughts? Thanx,
