Hello,
I used a notebook with an external PC Card-connection DVD-ROM disc
drive. I found it to be something of a hassle to have the DVD
detached from the computer in tight-fitting spaces such as airline
trays. A "zero footprint" solution like the ThinkPad UltraBase X3
Media Slice seems more convenient plus adds speakers, port replication,
room for an additional battery and so forth.
