Thank you, Svobi. I did ask the question on the OS/2 setup newsgroup a
week ago, but no one answered. And I do have all those lines in my
config.sys file (or the non-eCS equivalents). I'll try again with eCS
next week and hope their driver solves the problem.
Thanks again,
Edward Mendelson

I IDE CD-ROM
Hi Edward
You may had looked into wrong direction !?
The IBM1S506.ADD resp its aequivalent DaniS506.ADD
are not primarily for CD-ROM's !?
Do you have an IFS=C:\OS2\BOOT\CDFS.IFS /C:8 /Q /V /W line in your
CONFIG.SYS ?
Do you have an Device one of the lines like following in your
config.sys
REM $$$ DEVICE=C:\OS2\Boot\OS2CDROM.DMD
DEVICE=C:\WS\SYS\jjsCDROM\30328\jjsCDROM.DMD /F /Q /V /W
DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VCDROM.SYS
REM $$$ BASEDEV=IBMIDECD.FLT /V
REM $$$ BASEDEV=IBMATAPI.FLT /V
BASEDEV=DANIATAPI.FLT /V
Since your problem isn't TP related I would suggest you do change
from this ML to a more accurate OS/2 Mailing List !
Some hints for you and choose the nearest of your home:
POSSI.ORG, SCOUG.COM or try this link:

Subject: [Thinkpad] [TP760XL] OS/2 sometimes doesn't recognize Dock I
IDE CD-ROM
Here's a rather arcane question that didn't produce any answers when I
posted it in an OS/2 newsgroup a week ago, and I'm posting it here in
the hope that one of the many experts on this list may have an answer.
Many thanks in advance for any useful suggestions. Cut on the dotted
line:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Can anyone help with a completely baffling problem with OS/2 Warp
4/FixPak
15, running on a ThinkPad 760XL with a 20X IDE CD-ROM installed in the
drive bay of a ThinkPad Dock I?
More or less at random, the second IDE controller isn't recognized at
bootup and the CD-ROM isn't displayed in the Drives window. This
sometimes
seems to fix itself after a reboot or powerdown/restart, but sometimes
it
doesn't.
The problem wasn't fixed by installing the latest IDE and Removable
Media
fix from IBM's Device Driver Download site (the download file is
IDEDASD.EXE, and the Readme file is dated 11/25/03; the IBM1S506.ADD
file is
dated 10/13/03).
I have this line in CONFIG.SYS:
BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD /V
and the message "Adapter not recognized" (or something very similar)
appears
for Controller 1 during bootup when the problem occurs.
As specified in the readme with the fixed driver, I've changed the /V
parameter to /W:1 so that it pauses during bootup; when the failure
occurs,
a message appears saying that Controller:0 is OK (that's the hard disk),
but
this line appears also indicating that the CD-ROM isn't recognized:
Controller:1 Port:0170 IRQ:000F Status:Adapter not detected.
Yes, I have enabled the IDE device in the dock in the ThinkPad
configuration
program. I've also opened a DOS window and typed PS2 ? IDE2 and got the
result: "Current State: Enable" for the second IDE device, and IRQ 15 is
listed
as "Currently Assigned" to "Second IDE" when I type PS2 ? IDE.
I don't boot to other OSes between OS/2 boots.
Can anyone suggest a solution to this? Many thanks in advance.
Edward Mendelson
