I found reports online of success booting from USB floppies with Sony
drives, so it might depend on the particular model. (There are apparently
some issues for some Linux installs, one of which is that even bootable
drives are not recognized as floppy devices, but rather as USB storage
devices, which changes the way the system handles them.)
I ordered an X30 this morning, will postpone the floppy purchase until I
know more - or maybe I'll just buy them seriatim at the local superstore
until I find one that works.
