[Thinkpad] Desperate Help Needed on TP i1400 2621

hey again all

the struggle with this machine never really ended....i found all the parts to get it somewhat running again (new DVD-Rom, new AC power jack) and then the hard drive crashed and burned.

last night i attempted to run SPinRight 5.0 to try to revive some of the bad sectors.....i planned to leave it on overnight and check up on it every once in awhile durning the next 2 days.

i closed the lid and went to bed.....i wake up this morning and the TP was turned off....figured maybe due to power management features....except now it won't turn back on, no matter what i've tried (removing/replacing the battery...changing outlets....holding down teh power button for long periods of time, messing with the jack, checking for kinks in the a/c cord)

this is the same computer i've been trying to get running for my sister so she can write papers for college....we aren't very well off financially and can't afford one of the newer laptops...she needs this thing to work, and i can't afford to take it in to an expert....anyone have any ideas?
