Re: [Thinkpad] Hard Drive Firmware version 8 has been released

can someone give a brief overview of all this firmware update situation?
i have the 60GB drive (on a T41) which supposedly needs the update, but
don't know whether i need to do it to prevent my drive from dying in the
near future, or whether using the update will kill it anyway.

i did actually try installing the version that was on the IBM server a
couple of weeks back (the hdd, non-diskette version), but apart from
restarting the computer it didn't seem to do much; anyway my drive has
carried on working... since then i've seen conflicting reports about
installing/not installing and and getting a tad confused.

what is the idiot's guide version of this affair?
