Re: [Thinkpad] Hard Drive Firmware version 8 has been released

I'm not sure that anyone can give you one.

Short answer is that there is a version 8 of HD firmware that should update
your drive "without any problems".

Longer answer involves the explination that I did exactly that with version
7.1 and had problems with it on my drive... problems that Hitachi won't
recognize or support and that IBM tells me "it wasn't meant for you"
(although it ran OK) and "that drive isn't supported" (even though they told
me it would be). The version 8 edition seems to be the same driver that the
version 7.1 was, but in talking to a high end support guy, I'm getting the
impression that it wasn't AND that I got some screwed up version two weeks
ago.

That's all I have on it - best thing you can do is contact IBM support and
hope that they have more info on it. Also, you got the 60GB/7200 model?
And that firmware from 2 weeks ago didn't screw up your pre-desktop area?
Neat.

Cheers
