Re: [Thinkpad] Anyone using an IEEE-1394/Firewire PCMCIA card withT41?

Both problems seem to be fairly common with laptops. Microsoft mentions the disappearing device, but the possible causes it lists
don't sound like yours.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314873&Product=winxp

I did see some reports of people who said this patch http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329256&Product=winxp
cured the disappearance problem even though their circumstances didn't really sound like the symptoms described.

Also the possibility of IRQ competition or other resource problems, though most sound like they're caused either by multiple
firewire devices or a multifunction one (tripping all over itself?)

BTW, Microsoft says NOT to allow it to bring the system out of sleep, because under XP, the 1394 controller does not support the
wait/wake function and checking it can cause the system to become unstable.
