I know on my 600X with my KVM (LinkSys PS2KVM4), I had to have any system
that was starting W2K active during startup to get the set refresh rate.
During the low res. greeting screen, W2K will try to talk to the monitor
to determine its capabilities. If it's not there, the refresh rate gets
set to 60Hz no matter what I had the setting at. It displayed at 60 but
said 75. Trying to set it higher later was of no use.

Once it was at 75 though, switching away and back kept it at 75.

I never had crashes while changing settings.

I have since changed the monitor to an LCD panel, so 60Hz on all the
machines is just fine with me.
