[Thinkpad] RE: T40/41 BIOS

Well, I can't verify that it fixed my drive, because that went off to RMA
land.

I did get an email from tech support today telling me that the HDD firmware
MIGHT have some problems with non-IBM issued drives so they were going to
fix that (meaning that the firmware will only update Hitachi's OEM drives
that were created for IBM, I think).

I can also tell you that the new BIOS shows up as 3.00c on my T41 and the
most noticible changes I've seen is a new boot list (shows all types of
options, now, like USB Floppy and USB HDD) and a message about how F12 will
show you a boot list.

A friend of mine put the new bios on his T40 and one USB-KeyDrive that
wasn't bootable before now is, so they definately made some changes.
Whether or not the predesktop partition was changed I can't say: the 40GB
(the original drive I'm using while awaiting the RMA replacement) was long
since partitioned to not bother with the predesktop partition in the
interest of gaining more space.
