Hi,
I recently bought a used Thinkpad 600X which had windows 98 on it.
I am trying to install Windows XP professional on it with no success.
Here is what is happening...
I can boot with the win xp pro CD and it copies some files and then
it says 'Setup is starting windows' [at the blue screen with only 'Windows
Setup' on the top] and just hangs there.
I tried doing the same with different hard drives and also booted to DOS
with the win98 boot CD and ran
'WINNT.EXE' from the i386 folder. It copied all the files and said 'MS-DOS'
part of the setup is complete.
After the computer restarts, windows XP will configure settings...'
After I restarted the computer, it copied some files and it went to the same
message 'setup is starting windows' and
hangs there.
I already updated the BIOS to 'ITET55WW'.
Has anyone experienced this problem?
Just to give some more info, I had a win xp hard drive on thinkpad 600 which
was working fine.
But when I put the same drive on the 600x, it doesnt start windows. But if I
put another drive with win 2000 from the 600, the 600x can boot from it.
Thanks for any help.
