[Thinkpad] Driver/Firmware Updates

I'm new to this list so hopefully I'm sending this properly.

The recommendation below about downloading the IBM updates raised a
general question in my mind. I purchased a T40p last fall, which works
fine (a great machine!). I just visited the IBM website and saw almost
50 available updates. Should I be thinking about installing any
updates; are there specific things one should update as a matter of
general principle (e.g., BIOS updates, firmware, etc.)? I'm cognizant
of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy (although I don't
subscribe to it, which my wife then gently points out when I get in over
my head). Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

I just noticed that I missed a CDRW/DVD firmware update from 2/23/04.
Gee, I wonder if that one might be relevant

There are so many downloads related to your TP, it might be worth
restoring the preload just to be able to use the IBM updater to find
them for you!
