I've reached a new plateau in coping with my T30's inability to work
correctly with my KVM switch.
For years, I've never bothered to use a mouse more competent than a
Microsoft Intellimouse. They're less than $20 and when one dies or
otherwise refuses to behave, I just buy another. Until this week.
I was looking around our local Office Max when I spied a very nice Logitech
Optical Mouse, which I encouraged to come home with me. It has very smooth
feet, and does not allow to escape any of the red light it uses for pattern
detection. Very pretty. Very easy to use. Lots of extras.
I powered both computers down, plugged the Logitech mouse into the Belkin
KVM, and powered back up. The new mouse was happy with the desktop system,
and worked fine with the T30. Until I switched away from the T30, then
back. No more mouse. Absolutely nothing I did would convince the T30 stop
pouting and talk to the new mouse. Now I better understand the problems
some on this list may have been having.
So, I decided to do a test. I powered both systems down and plugged the
old cheapie mouse back into the KVM. I then unplugged the KVM mouse cable
from the T30's dock and plugged in the new mouse instead.
Voila! The T30 is now happy. The downside is that I now have two mouses
(mice? meece?) on a mousepad big enough for just one. The upside is that I
can now, for the first time ever, switch away from the T30 to the desktop
system without having the T30 whine about it.
But, oh, what a pain in the assets.
