My 600X probably came with that same 12GB drive. I replaced it with a
5400RPM 40GNX and it is noticeably faster. As an added bonus, it's also
much quieter. I have not looked at power consumption, though.

If you're looking to upgrade the OS at the same time, you can buy a drive
and an OEM version of Windows which can save a bundle. Newegg.com has
Windows XP Pro OEM for $138.50, Home for $95.00.
