Aryheh:

Thanks for the idea. I did have CPRSuite 1.0.8 on the system. I've now removed it and all associated files. No help.

I also removed all the security programs, after which the anomaly began. No help.

I had run several different antivirus programs; no viruses. I ran several different spyware/malware programs. No help.

I ran a repair on W2K using Emergency Repair Disk and SP4. No help.

I reinstalled SP4. No help.

I removed 500 Mb of files to see what would happen. This actually decreased my "available space" from 3% to 1%; even though the Defrag analysis says I now have 26% of "space."

Of course, not only does this make the Thinkpad not visable for future use; but it has brought the system to a slow crawl regardless of what program I try to run.

I once did a reinstall/reformat of a Thinkpad using IBM Recovery Disks. Then, to reinstall all programs, drivers, and data, it took me 2 solid weeks. I shudder at the thought of having to do it again.

So: Any other ideas?

Hopefully,

Larry
