yes, I know, but the 2.4.16 is part of my fully automatic installation system.
Later a several patched 2.4.25 is installed.
I found the problem in the meantime: the 2.4.16 that was used by my
installtion sytem was a kernel compiled for i686 (because the HDD was build
in an i686 for installation).
I forced the usage of an i386 kernel and everything was fine.
