I tried David Ross's suggestion and ran memtest86+. It produced no
errors in 4 passes (more than 2 hours of testing). So the memory
seems fine.

Not all. There was one Perl script besides the emacs and galeon. I'm
going to run with it for a week or so and see if any patterns show up;
I'll also collect core files when programs crash. If anything useful
turns up, I'll ask on the Linux kernel list or on an Xfree86 list.
(I'll also describe anything useful to this list.)
Several people have offered to buy the module from me. Which is good
to know. Let me see what a few days of usage turns up before I decide
to part with it.
