[Thinkpad] Drive Cloning

This issue has come up so frequently that it should be in FAQ somewhere.
Is there any?

I'm going to be doing this soon. I'll be connecting two drives to the
3.5mm-2.5mm adapters on my desktop. I have researched my options,
including commercial options: Norton Ghost, Paragon Drive Backup,
Powerquest Drive Image, EZGig (comes with the 2nd HDD adapter?), Casper
XP/Drive2Drive, Acronis TrueImage, and the freeware options including:
Partition Saving (not a complete drive copy), Partition Image (Linux
based, again only per partition), and PC-Inspector Clone Maxx (claims
to be very fast).

Any feedback on the freeware options listed, especially the Clone Maxx?
Opinions on the commercial options are also welcome. Please cc me on
