Regarding Norton Utilities, the thing that really shines with the package is
the defrag utility. Of all the utilities I've seen, it is the only one that
defrags the swap file to make it one continuous file and on top of that will
resize it for optimal performance and finally place it on the fastest drive
in the front of the drive. Beyond that, it keeps track of what files you
use and the ones you don't. The files you do not use often - or at all, it
will put them at the end of the drive; the ones you use all the time, it
will put them up front. The files that change size are placed between the
two so they can expand and contract without fear of causing further
fragmentation. This procedure is true regardless of the platform (Win9x vs.
WinNT->XP)

Whenever part of the filesystem is changed, or possibly changed,
the defrag utility restarts, so it doesn't miss anything. You can sit
there forever doing that.

I wouldn't bother with anything other than the norton utilities. It isn't
that much, and has the wonderful advantage of being able to defrag
the swap file, a huge win, and in fact makes win95/98 more stable.

Do that, and you'll be much happier.
