I just showed your email to David my husband and he agreed with others
that it might be a hardware problem and to do a memtest. He says:

Dodgy hardware gets stress-tested by major applications like Mozilla,
so give it a checkup with memtest86.

It's *unlikely* to be a straight-out bad interaction between Mozilla
and Win98 - Win98 is a heavily-tested platform for Mozilla. It might
be Windows bitrot. But you probably don't want to wipe and reinstall
Windows just to test!

You should give Mozilla 1.7rc2 a go if you really want the integrated
suite, or try Firefox (0.8 or a recent nightly) for just the browser,
and see how that goes.

HTH :-)

Oh, and FWIW, I am running both Firefox 0.8 and Thunderbird 0.6 (which
when running together are slightly larger than the Mozilla suite, but
it's personal taste) on a TP 560X running Win98SE fully patched by
Microsoft critical updates with 96 meg of RAM and have no problems.
