Sounds like there might have been some spyware or similar that had
installed itself. Do you use Adaware? (http://www.lavasoft.de) It works
like an antivirus program (which means the definition files need to be
kept up to date) to detect spyware, tracking cookies etc. And there's a
freeware version available.
