Gathering off their website, the Ultrabay FX is what this machine uses.
I've never heard of it, but you could check a place such as eBay for
one.
I wouldn't buy from IBM directly as it would be liable to cost a
fortune.

Only if the primary hard drive is not present, or you have a program to
allow you to
select a drive. I don't believe notebook BIOS' will ever get that
specific, as to allowing
you to choose a specific device to boot off of if you have more than
one.

I haven't heard that, and personally would be inclined to think that
some of the
older drives were less efficient and generated more heat than some
today. I forgot
how small the 390e is, but I use all the latest drives on my machines
(the 80GB on
my T23 and 600e, and one of the most recent 7.5GB drives on my 701C)
without any troubles.
With some of the newer drives, you can change things like acoustics and
power
draw with the IBM Drive Fitness or their other program. Drive
Utilities or something or another.
