No, its probably *not* a driver problem.
Let me restate: The sound *does* come well over the headphone jack.
It just doesn't come over the speakers.
If the drivers wouldn't work, I obviously couldn't hear music over
headphones.
So I'm willing to believe the device manager that everything is okay with
Window's drivers.
Let me also restate that the Fn key combinations for volume up/down and
muting don't seem to work (no effect even when listening over headphones),
while other Fn keys work.
It looks like it's stuck with some kind of muting for the speakers (that
doesn't work for the headphones).
And yes, it's definitely a 600E (type 2645-4A0, serial no. 550C25L 02/99,
system board serial no. J19RM9134DY).
