Again, the fact that you say the speakers work in XP indicates that this is
not a hardware problem - if the hardware works in XP, then for sure it
should work in 98.
Did you install 98 from an IBM recovery disk?
I have seen a case where the Fn combination did not work - that was a
motherboard problem.
