[Thinkpad] A22p Modem noise

Hello,

I've just made my first reformatting on the 3 years old A22p, it was running
WinXP and, pity me, I decided for no real reason it was time to reinstall
everything (it has some minor issues, but I could live with them rather than
this hell).

Now some things are not working at all, after going through the entire IBM
support site and downloading everything I saw related to the A22p, and
installing it, a lot of things won't work, the worst being:

- A high pitched noise coming on when the line on the modem is open; it
starts just before dialing and keeps on all the way till hanging up.

- The advanced power functions aren't working, when I close the lid it shows
as it's suspended (with the little moon light on, but when I wake the system
up, by opening the lid, it restarts windows and states: "Windows is
recovering from a grave error. Report it?" (The wording must be different,
since I'm translating back from Spanish).

Can anyone shed a light on this?

Is there a difference in the order of installing things? Shouldn't the last
update be kept?

Well, anything! I'm regretting my decision more and more!

Best regards,

Juan
PS: Please bear with my English! :)
