Unlikely that you will have trouble with any ethernet card in Linux.
Wireless is another matter, the key is the chipset (and you have to be
careful here, as some companies -notably Linksys - give cards with very
different chipsets the same name). Before buying a card, go to the
manufacturer's support section and see if they have Linux drivers
available for download.

The easiest is likely Knoppix/Debian - moreover, you can test it on your
machine before wiping XP.
