I have T-Mobile's internet service in Michigan. Overall, it works, but its
pretty slow at times. An FTP session can shovel data at about 3-5K per
second, but an interactive ssh session can be the pits.
I suspect this is related to the fact that they are oversubscribed here,
but there are times when I will establish a connection and nothing will
happen. Probably 4 times now I've gotten UDP only sessions, great
for those times when all you want to do is ping sites, but gets boring
quicking as soon as you want to do something with it.
Overall, I'd say its worth it, but just barely. The phone modem I am
using in the hotel I'm at presently is ever so much faster. But when
sitting in some public place without wifi, you can take our your phone
and get on the net, which is very nice. Other services charge a lot
more for this service, so $20 a month isn't too bad. I already had
a Motorola V66 phone which has a modem, so I didn't have to buy
anything other than serial/usb cables to connect to my laptop.
