Hey guys, I was browsing a web site the other day that claimed that for
UDMA-5 mode (aka ATA100) to work with an Intel chipset, one needs to do a
registry modification first. Sounded kind of crazy. But it got me
wondering about our X31s. So I fired up SiSoft Sandra 2003 and tested the
IC25N 4200 RPM ATA100 Hitachi drive. Sandra thinks it is ATA100 now. But
Sandra gave it a score of only 8407 kB/s! For comparison, according to
Sandra:
ATA100 5400 RPM: 20000 kB/s
ATA66 4200 RPM: 10300 kB/s
ATA100 4200 RPM X31: 8407 kB/s
ATA33 4200 RPM: 6500 kB/s
Looks like this drive is going about twice as slow as it should be. Anyone
else using this drive agree there is something wrong? If so, how do I make
the registry hack to get ATA100?
