You are a man after my own heart.
I believe the in old phrase "if someone else can run their program on
your computer then it's not your computer anymore"
My answer is the custom installers from Lite PC <www.litepc.com>.
They make a version for Win2K/XP that is basically a custom installer
for Windows. Run XPlite first and it will start the OS installation for
you. This time around you will have many more options, delete Outlook,
delete Internet Explorer, delete the MS HTML engine.
If you change your mind you can put the components back in.
I periodically install IE so I can install Windows upgrades.
I suppose I could leave it installed but I always get a thrill out of
removing it.
LitePC can also be used on an existing installation but it's better to
do a clean install if you have the Windows OS CD.
LitePC is shareware and I highly recommend it. It's the best $40 I've
ever spent on software. It's one of the things that made the Solid State
560x possible, using WIN98 Lite I was able to get Windows98SE down to
227 Mb (which is nice when your C drive is 800 Mb).
I think you can actually get Win98 down to around 50 Mb if you want the
real stripped down version.
Good Luck
