Hiya,
(i must set OE to Plain text by default, doing my head in changing it all
the time, or I could just download Thunderbird which I much prefer)
Anyway. :) I have finally paid for an SXGA+ T23 (2647-9LU), perhaps a bit
more than one would wish to ($900) but with the promise of it being in brand
new condition being refurbished, and a 30 day money back guarantee or
exchange if its not right, it all seemed good. (bar the paltry 128meg by
default, I'm sure the 1gig I have in this T23 will rectify that)
Anyway the question; with the 9LU is a 48gig 5400rpm Travelstar disk with
2MB cache memory. In this T23, a 4MG I have recently installed a 40gig
5400rpm Samsung (quiet, very quiet, cannot even hear it) with 8mb cache.
Question is - this 9LU has a whole 8gig extra (before formatting etc.) over
the one in my 4MG presently; however - is the 48gig Travelstar drive in this
T23
- known to work silently or near to silence
- which will be faster, i'm inclined to think obviously the samsung with 4 x
the cache. (although the more cache you have the slower it can get, this i
believe is more related to the L1/L2/L3 cache issues in CPUs)
Also, if I decide the Samsung disk will be a better bet, given the T23 9LU
will have the same IDE controller; do I need to do that registry hack
(whatever that is) to get the disk to boot properly without a stop error
from XP - or will it boot straight off without a problem?
Cheers!
Vicky
