Have you ever tried a different wifi access point or router on your LAN?

Possibly you could borrow a friend's (different model) and see if things
improve?

FWIW, both Linksys and MS Wifi hardware I've installed have worked properly,
though I haven't used D-Link products for a long while, so I can't commment
on the 802.11g hardware they produce.
