The new Security Center doesn't coordinate too well with Access Connections.
Status reports the firewall being turned off, though AC is set to disable
file sharing. If the XP firewall is enabled through AC, the Security Center
report is accurate, while merely disabling file sharing is not enough,
reporting-wise.
The Firewall DID recognize the different client profiles in AC, showing a
complete list of AC profiles under "Advanced" which is surprising, since two
of the entries are for Local Area Connection (wired lan) and Wireless
Connection; which should pretty much be the only two methods of connections
available, regardless of the actual connection settings.
I'd assume that a plain laptop install with wired and wifi adapters would
only show those two connections; relating to the firewall settings.
One more strange bit: The start menu lost my MS Word shortcut. Showed up as
an invalid shortcut with no further information. Once re-created, the
program opened properly.
The new popup messages from the firewall, (I've seen this twice so far), are
interesting. One told me it was blocking "some" of the program's features
until I selected "Keep Blocking" or Unblock". Nice.
The firewall does keep track of "ok'd" programs this way.
So far - so good.
More to follow.
