[Thinkpad] TP570E LCD beginning to fail?

My TP570E (in service since June 2001) has recently developed a gray shadow
on the right side of the LCD panel. The shadow is about 2" in diameter. I
assume that the indicates that the LCD is beginning to fail.

Has anyone seen this problem before?

Any recommendations for a repair source (other than IBM)?
