Here at work, I have had the opportunity to work with both an A31p and a
T42p (15" Flexview, 2373-KXU).
The A31p is still a great machine. Negatives are short battery life, and
no USB 2.0. Pro's are the ports positioned in the back (much better for
me than on the side), a real serial port (good for Cisco router work),
and the 3-spindle design.
The T42p has a better case material and is thinner.
For normal everyday use, I don't see too much difference in speed. I'm
sure it is there, but negligable.
In the end, the A31p is probably more useful, as I have AC power most
everywhere I work. Both are excellent machines.

You could do that, as long as it is the P-4 M (as in mobile) There was
one on Ebay the other day for $199 Still too expensive, but cheaper than
retail I think.
It is quite simple to do, just make sure to use good thermal grease. And
keep the old CPU for warranty purposes

Would one just purchase a box product Intel 2.6GHz 4M processor and use
the Thinkpad hardware guide to disassemble the machine and install?
