[Thinkpad] USB thumbdrive boot R40 2897-93U ?

I've got an R40 2897-93U that I can't persuade to boot from a USB memory key.

The memory key is a "JumpDrive Trio - Single Slot Multi-Card Reader" http://www.lexarmedia.com/readers/trio.html .

I've been reading a lot about this subject and have created a number of USB-key configurations that might have worked -- but none did.

Does anyone out here have boot-from-USB working ? Or, perhaps know some reason why it should not work ?

If so, could you share your knowledge with me and the group ?
