Two different sets of symptoms. I should mention first that this is an A30p that I bought
from someone on eBay. He knew nothing about it, not even the model number or where the
accessories and documentation were; he'd inherited it from someone who used it to run a
diagnostic program in a dental office. It was very obvious that it had barely been used.
The hard drive still had the prior owner's programs on it, which consisted of nothing but
factory preload and the dental program.
The seller also didn't know that the screen was starting to display what looked like cloth
fraying along the top edge. In fact, his ad had several pictures, including screen shots
that didn't show the defect. He was so embarrassed at having misrepresented an eBay item's
condition that he offered to buy it back and pay for all shipping. I wasn't about to let
it go, so instead I graciously let him just refund $50 of the purchase price to compensate
for the inconvenience of having to send it in for repair.
That was in March. It was returned with a new system board. Or at least a replacement, if
not "new". Then a few weeks ago, the backlight disappeared,. Not gradually; it just wasn't
there one day when I turned the TP on. I thought it was just a loose connection, because
the lower left corner of the keyboard also felt loose, flexing when touched. I'd hardly
used the computer since its return, so I thought maybe it hadn't been put back together
well during its prior visit. I was surprised that it was sent back with yet another system
board -- the third on a computer that probably hasn't seen 50 hours of use.
I figure the gods are punishing me for crowing about scoring a near-new A30p for $637
including shipping. Hubris and all that... .
