[Thinkpad] Word Viewer

Trying to open a Word document (not having Word installed) I downloaded WD97VWR32.EXE
from MS site and installed to my TP 600X running Win98SE. Viewer reports it cannot open
the file.

A text editor shows at foot of Word file:

 MSWordDoc Word Document.8

What can I do?
