Seebs,
Best way to tell what flavor of XP your recovery CD holds is to look in the
i386 folder for the "setupp.ini" file. (Two "P"s, that's not a typo).
There will be a line "PID=" followed by eight numbers.
The last three numbers tell what type of CD key will be accepted:
OEM = OEM CD key only
270 = volume license key only
335 = retail license key only
