Recently I bought some genuine IBM memory for my X30. When I opened the
(sealed) IBM box and looked at the chip, I saw that it was manufactured
by Hynix, a relatively young Korean company currently involved in some
'dumping' disputes. I'd earlier passed up some inexpensive chips on
eBay because they were made by Hynix, and I'd wanted to avoid an
off-brand!

I got a very good price for the chip, $25 including shipping to Hawaii
for 256megs, so I really shouldn't complain about the seller, but we had
a few strange emails about shipping. The ad had listed a $10 shipping
cost to "the 50 United States", but he insisted repeatedly in email that
this did not include Hawaii, only the "50 continental United States".
Uh huh. In the event, he shipped insured priority mail for under $5,
and perhaps he bought an atlas with the remainder.
