The T4X series are _not_ compatible with any accessories for the older T series
other than the power supply.

You'll need a ThinkPad Dock II:

ThinkPad Mini-Dock:
http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-45932 for
your T42, both of which _are_ compatible with older A, T and X series machines.
