It's not just the registry. A free specialized tool can
help: EasyCleaner or StartupClean; even PowerToys can help.
I'm sure Jeff has already checked the system out with
Ad-aware and Search'n Destroy.

I saw the CPU 100% thing a bit when using Win98, so long ago,
but not several times per day.
