Do you have any program like antivirus software -- or processe that continually performs
some type of scan or check in the background? Perhaps something that might show up in
"Running Processes"?

You might try de-selecting the low-battery warning beep to see if it stops the repeated
beeping. If so, at least you'll have a better idea of whether the problem is in the
battery-level sensing system or elsewhere.

If you're using Windows XP, the fact that the beep is more muted than the usual
low-battery alarm sound does not really help, because all flavors of XP have a bug that
can cause the innocuous-sounding "system/default beep" sound instead of the expected
"warning beep" sound to be emitted.

I think you can disable the sound, but I'd be reluctant to do that without trying to find
out if it is being triggered by a malfunction that ought to be addressed.
