RE: [Thinkpad] OT: Lower 48 states

If you're really feeling trivial Alaska entered the union before Hawaii and
thus there was a brief time during which we Alaskans used the term "lower
48" literally referring to the rest of the union. Of course, this was only
a 7-8 month period before we switched to 50 stars on Old Glory so the term
has legs beyond trivia.

Alaska was originally spread over 4 times zones! The most western zone was
over the international date line but the feds rearranged the line to move
the Aleutians back into the same day as the rest of the US.

What isn't trivial - folks buying thinkpads up here (Alaska) from ebay have
to parse through shipping terms because some vendors will only ship ground
or won't take the time to hit the USPS. Others are more flexible and
realize they can use USPS or ship 2nd day air and we'll receive the package
in 3 days...
