Webster @ http://www.webster-dictionary.org/definition/conterminous does
not agree with you. Is it your position that New York is discontiguous
because the East River is in another State - that New York State is all
dry land and any wet bits must be somewhere else? I guess that every
state must have at least one river, lake or pond with an island so perhaps
by your interesting abuse of the language no states can be contiguous.
