I have had a workhorse 600E (similar config running 98SE) for more than 5
years. for at least the last three have used cardbus wireless network cards
(802.11b first now 'g' though not surprisingly on the 600E interfacing
primarily with 'b' access points the 'g' shows little if any enhancement)

currently using a linksys card. The utility that came with the card makes
connecting with access points relatively painless

practicality of the house 2 house in Mexico will depend primarily on the
router you chose to connect to the 'wired' connection. At home I have no
difficulty accessing printers 90-100 feet away. A favorite local Coffe
house has both a free access point and an extensive garden, and have had no
difficulty staying connected from 120-130 ft.

A rough limit for Wifi is 150 ft. but I have remained connected at distances
of up to 500ft without any enchancements to hardware on my end

any way . . . yes a 600e can be an effective platform for wireless . . .
(though I'm not sending this from the 600E but am wireless)
