That sounds a tad impossible bruce : )
The X40 uses a low voltage processor right? It uses about 6 watts of power
at 600mhz and 12 watts at its full speed (if it's a 1.1 or 1.2), even the
heatsink on the x40 should be able to dissipate 6 watts of heat passively.
And on the thinkpad.com fourms, people have always said that the fan almost
never runs on the x40.
Also, a report on the X31. The fan almost never runs when it's locked at
600mhz (on both mains and battery, I like quiet) although it will turn on
pretty quickly if it's left to idle at 1.4ghz. Even with the fan at full
speed though, it's quite tolerable.
