Suggestions to try:
Make sure your power management settings are all ACPI -- none APM -- for
both computer and OS.
If you have Fast User Switching enabled, disable it.
In Device Manager-USB Controller-Root Hub-Properties-Power Management-
uncheck "Allow this computer to turn off power to this device"
If it started with SP1, get MS hotfix (or install SP2).
